Shades of Light Giveaway!

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately for a commercial project that I’m working on and one of things that I’ve been searching for is the perfect light fixture.

Well, as soon as I found Shades of Light, my search was over. The selection of light fixtures that they have is wonderfully diverse, easily searchable and offers everything from dorm decor to antique lighting.

The incredible people of Shades of Light have generously donated a beautiful Old World Gold Lantern (shown below) to one of my lucky readers!

Gold Lantern Shades of Light

Old World Gold Lantern

Here is what you do….

Go to Shades of Light, peruse their lighting fixtures, then come back to my blog and let me know which lighting fixture you like and why!

From the comments received one lucky winner will be chosen to receive the beautiful lantern above!

That’s all you have to do! Easy! I wish I could enter my own contest, because I love the lantern they are giving away!

Shades of Light is more than a lighting store. They also offer rugs, furniture and a contract and hospitality service to the trade.

Here are some of the light fixtures that I fell in love with…

Woven Sphere Pendant – Fun for a funky apartment or a home filled with natural elements.

Antique Gold Leaf Crystal Chandelier - 6 Light – Very romantic, very French and very beautiful!

Organza Shade & Crystal Chandelier – Round – So glamorous!

Shades of Light has three store locations; two in Richmond, Virginia and one in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

You can view their online catalog here.

They also have a fantastic blog called Inspired Spaces. They have great ideas for your home.

Their rug selection is unique and interesting. Offering traditional, modern and more, anyone can find what they are looking for on their site! Here are a few that I thought were just the ticket!

Ming Hand Knot Rug – Looking for something a little more traditional? The subtle colors in this hand-knotted rug would be perfect with some bergère chairs, iron and glass tables and nice glass of merlot!

Soho Dhurri Rug: Moroccan Tile Design: 4 Color Available

Soho Dhurri Rug – The geometric pattern of this rug can be used in a modern or traditional setting. Love it!

Overscaled Flora Rug – The green goes so well with the grey/green walls that are so popular right now.

O.K… it’s on! Go to Shades of Light, then come back here and leave me a comment! Good luck to you all!

The winner will be chosen next Saturday, July 4th! Tell your friends and family!

*** I'm sorry to say that this contest is only open to contest entries within the U.S. for mailing purposes. ***

Sushanta

I have a friend that I must tell you about.  I met her in design school and was immediately impressed by her knowledge of design and her unparalleled excellence in her projects and her work.  I’ve been wanting to blog about her for awhile now, but have just not sat down long enough to do her justice.  But, I decided that I’ve delayed long enough.

image

Sushanta is a woman of incredible talent, drive and passion.

Where do I begin….

  • masters degree in microbiology
  • talented interior designer
  • certified green building professional
  • incredible artist
  • fantastic jewelry designer
  • photographer with a refined eye
  • Founder of Empowering World Change

Sushanta and Michelle Pine (on right) of Empowering World Change presenting at one of the local Silicon Valley Schools to teach green design and sustainability.

Sushanta surprised me on my first visit to her beautiful home.  She asked me if I wanted to see her studio where she does her “work”.  “Of course”, I replied.  Well, to say that I was impressed is an understatement in grand scale.   She is involved in so many aspects of art, design and green design that it is hard to fathom.

Here is some of the mixed media artwork that Sushanta has done…

Sushanta’s jewelry designs are equally as interesting and gorgeous.  Here is a sampling…

Where I’m Clicking This Week…

Time for some blogger love…

I’m not as good as some about reading other blogs on a regular basis, because I have been crazy busy, but I’m planning to make up for it this summer!

I’m getting started with these links…. check them out for some great reading, recipes, links and more!

Over at Posie Gets Cozy, there is a link to a great looking Grilled Spicy Jalepeno and Lime Shrimp Skewers recipe! Yum! Summer picnic food!

Stuff 240

There are some absolutely decadent blueberry waffles over at June Pfaff Daley's Blog. How many Weight Watcher’s points would those be?

Swedish Blog purple area has a blog post on Kelly Hoppen. Kelly is one of my favorite designers. I have two of her hardcover design books and whenever I see her work, I am always impressed. Enjoy the photos!

Heidi over at 101 Cookbooks has posted a couple of great recipes. The first is a summer squash gratin, which makes me want to head out quickly to my farmer’s market and get rolling on this recipe and the second is for a giant black bean salad, which is also a favorite food of mine! Yum!

It takes a lot to make me jealous.  Really, it does.  But, when my friend Anne Sage of the blog The City Sage wrote that she has an interview with the great Nate Berkus lined up… well, all I can say is “Anne, can I be your assistant?”.

To top it off, Anne is hosting a contest, giving away some of Nate’s throw pillows from his current collection.
